ABO blood transfusion: test every pair sim

Drag donor red cells (A, B, AB, O) from blood bags into wells of recipient plasma on a white typing tile, rock it, see under a hand lens whether the cells clump, and fill all 16 boxes of the donor table.

Transport in humans · covers the O-Level topic

Live, not a video. Anyone can unlock 2 figures free; a free account unlocks up to 5 and keeps them in your dashboard.

What the sim shows

Model: the ABO system only, for red cells. Groups A, B, AB and O carry antigen A, antigen B, both or neither on their red cells, and anti-B, anti-A, neither or both in their plasma. A donor's cells clump when their antigens meet the matching antibodies in the recipient's plasma; the donor's own plasma is ignored (little of it, diluted). Clumps form over 30 s of rocking (illustrative). Rhesus factor and other antigens left out. Nothing moves on its own.

  • The dropper: drag it from a donor bag into a well of that donor's row
  • Wells: pale yellow = recipient plasma only; red = donor cells added (smooth, or grainy with clumps)
