What the sim shows

Model: a fatty plaque grows in the left coronary artery's front branch at 0.5 to 2.35 percentage points of narrowing a year, set by the risk factors (halved by a statin), from age 20. The most flow when the heart works hard falls from about 50 % narrowing; resting flow holds until about 85 % (illustrative curves). A clot stops the flow; muscle starts to die after about 20 minutes. All values illustrative, not medical advice. Front view: the patient's left is on the right of the page. Not to scale.

  • The catheter tip carrying a stent: drag it along the arteries
  • Raised tubes: the coronary arteries, with oxygenated blood (bright red, never blue)
