Rate of reaction sim
50 cm³ of hydrochloric acid is in the flask.

What the sim shows
50 cm³ of hydrochloric acid is in the flask. Drop in 0.072 g of magnesium (0.0030 mol), put the bung back at once and start the clock. Mg + 2HCl → MgCl₂ + H₂. The hydrogen pushes the plunger out; read the syringe at fixed times and plot volume against time. The curve is steepest at the start and levels off when one reactant is used up. Change one thing at a time: a stronger acid, a warmer acid or powder makes the curve steeper, and the same amount of magnesium still gives the same final volume. In 0.1 mol/dm³ acid the acid runs out first, so less gas is made. Gas volumes are at room temperature and pressure (24 dm³ per mole). The clock runs ten times faster than real time.
