What the sim shows

Catalase breaks down hydrogen peroxide: 2H₂O₂ → 2H₂O + O₂. Keep the peroxide amount fixed and compare how quickly oxygen enters the gas syringe. More active enzyme gives a steeper initial rise; boiled enzyme is inactive. This model uses 20 cm³ of 0.25 mol/dm³ peroxide, an illustrative enzyme rate and a room-condition gas molar volume of 24 dm³/mol.

  • Read the syringe at equal time intervals. The peroxide amount limits the final gas volume; enzyme amount changes the rate.
