Fermenter: grow engineered bacteria sim
A bench fermenter controls temperature, aeration and nutrient supply while bacteria grow.
Fermenter · grow engineered bacteria · covers the GCSE, IGCSE, O-Level topic
What the sim shows
A bench fermenter controls temperature, aeration and nutrient supply while bacteria grow. Only the insulin-engineered strain produces the modeled insulin. The model uses an illustrative 20-minute early-growth doubling time at 30 °C, a nutrient-limited logistic population and relative insulin output. Culture volume stays fixed. The mixing paddle is shown in a still inspection view.
- Left: temperature-controlled culture flask with air inlet, thermometer and mixing paddle. Middle: filtered air pump. Right: a sample collection vial. Insulin still needs extraction and purification after growth.
