Leaf starch test: follow the method sim
Boil the leaf in water for about 1 minute, then heat it in ethanol in a water bath to remove chlorophyll.
Leaf starch test · follow the method · covers the GCSE, IGCSE, O-Level topic
What the sim shows
Boil the leaf in water for about 1 minute, then heat it in ethanol in a water bath to remove chlorophyll. Rinse in warm water to soften it, place it on the white tile and add iodine. Ethanol is kept away from a flame. The drawings show successive preparation and reading views of the same specimen.
- Left: boiling water. Middle: folded leaf in ethanol, heated in a water bath. Right: the rinsed leaf on the approved white tile. Blue-black shows starch; brown-yellow shows no starch. Remaining chlorophyll can hide the result.
